Protein Powders:

Most protein powders are made with whey (cows milk).

Did you know whey protein can be difficult to digest and is mass produced so the nutritional quality isn’t as high as your plant based friends?

Whey contains many artificial sugars like aspartame and sucraolse which are made in labs which cause a host of unwanted side effects.

On the other hand switching to plant based proteins that contain pea protein, rice and hemp can help your gut. Plant based protein powders typically are allergy friendly for those who are gluten and dairy free, saving the environment as it reduces heavy manufacturing costs and is sweetened with fruits, veggies and stevia that are found in nature.

Taste is a huge thing for most people so my personal favorites in the plant based protein powder department is, Garden of Life and Vega Sport, mix with almond, cashew or hemp milk and even add in some healthy fats and desired fruits.

 

Lentils and Beans:

Whats nice about lentils and beans is the fact they are so filling. You could eat a meal based around these and have enough fiber to get you to your next meal.

Lentils are high in protein, can be added to curries, made into cold salads, used in bread or eat them as a pairing with your favorite stir fry veggies.

Beans are amazing for cold pasta salads, blended to make hummus and can be used in soups, stews and many salads.

Lentils and beans are also low in fat which helps the waist line, lowers bad cholesterol and helps prevent heart disease.

 

Chia Seeds:

Chia contains 6 grams of protein per 2 tbsp which is great!

They contain healthy plant fatty acids which signals your body to burn fat instead of storing it. Despite their tiny size they are actually one of the healthiest foods on the planet.

Chia seeds are high in protein, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous which are all nutrients essential in bone health. You don’t need to drink cows milk to get good bones, eating chia seeds will!

 

Quinoa:

With wheat intolerance and celiacs on the rise, we have an ancient grain that can save the day!

Quinoa is a plant based protein that contains lots of antioxidants for you to regain your health back, sprouting them also makes more of the antioxidants come out.

Protein is essential if you do not eat meat, quinoa has great iron and magnesium levels as well as being high on the list for fiber. Sprouting the quinoa in water before you cook it, releases phytic acid from the quinoa as this blocks nutrients from being absorbed properly in the body.

Overall quinoa is a great grain to add to your list for healthy plant based proteins to eat everyday.
